Motra is designed to track your strength workouts automatically, so you can stay focused on your movement without touching your watch. Our auto-detection system identifies exercises using motion data from your Apple Watch - counting reps, recognizing movement patterns, and logging sets in real time.
There may be times when you want to turn off auto-detection, for example if you're resting, or performing an exercise which is not supported with auto-detection.
Auto-detection is on by default. You can turn it off for a single workout, or set it to stay off for every workout — see Make Auto-Detection Off Your Default below.
Disable Auto-Detection:
You can disable auto-detection, but still keep your workout running. Your heart-rate, calories, and workout time will continue to track while auto-detection is paused.
Start your workout as usual in the Motra Apple Watch app
Tap the top-right corner of the screen during the workout
Turn Auto-Detection → Off
When auto-detection is turned off:
Motra still tracks heart rate, calories, and duration
No exercises or reps will be automatically detected
You can manually add exercises (e.g., rowing or cardio) after the workout
This gives you full control while keeping your workout data intact.
Make Auto-Detection Off Your Default
If you never want auto-detection, you can set it to stay off so it doesn't turn back on each time you start a workout. There are two ways to set this on your Apple Watch.
From Watch Settings
On your Apple Watch, open the Motra app and go to Settings.
Tap Auto-Detection.
Turn on Always off.
While in a Workout
Tap the top-right corner of the screen and switch to Manual (Off).
Turn on Always start off.
Once enabled, every new workout begins in Manual (Off). You can re-enable auto-detection at any time from either of these screens, or turn it back on for just a single workout using the steps above.
