How to Add Home Screen Widgets

  1. Long-press on an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps start to jiggle.

  2. Tap the + button in the top-left corner (or tap Edit > Add Widget on iOS 18+).

  3. Search for Motra in the widget gallery.

  4. Browse the available widgets -- swipe left and right to see different sizes.

  5. Tap Add Widget to place it on your Home Screen.

  6. Drag the widget to your preferred position and tap Done.

Tip: The first time you add a widget, it may show a "Launch Motra to load" message. Simply open the Motra app once and the widget will populate with your data.

How to Add Lock Screen Widgets

  1. Long-press on your Lock Screen and tap Customize.

  2. Select the Lock Screen option.

  3. Tap the widget area above or below the clock (depending on your device).

  4. Search for or scroll to Motra in the widget picker.

  5. Choose from Weekly Progress, Weekly Workout Minutes (rectangular or circular), or Quick Access.

  6. Tap Done and then tap the Lock Screen to confirm.

Live Activity & Dynamic Island

When you start a workout in Motra, a Live Activity automatically appears on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island (on supported iPhones). It keeps you informed without needing to unlock your phone or switch back to the app.

What it shows

  • Current exercise name and details -- the exercise you are working on and set info.

  • Rest timer -- a running timer since your last logged set, along with your rest alarm duration if you have rest alarms enabled.

  • Progress bar -- a visual countdown toward your rest alarm target.

  • Log Next Set button -- tap the checkmark directly from the Live Activity or Dynamic Island to log your next set without opening the app.

Dynamic Island views

  • Compact view: Shows a running rest timer on the leading side and the current exercise thumbnail on the trailing side.

  • Expanded view: Shows the full rest timer, exercise name and details, and a Log Next Set button (when an upcoming set is available).

  • Minimal view: Displays the Motra logo when another Live Activity takes the primary spot.

Enabling and disabling

Live Activity starts automatically when you begin a workout and ends when you finish or discard the workout. To control whether Motra can show Live Activities:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

  2. Go to Motra (or search for it).

  3. Toggle Live Activities on or off.

Note: If Live Activities are disabled at the system level, the workout will still function normally inside the app -- you just will not see the Lock Screen or Dynamic Island display.

Widget Not Updating?

iOS widgets do not refresh in real time. Apple's WidgetKit controls when widgets are allowed to reload, and updates are batched on a schedule that iOS manages. Here is what you should know:

  • Motra requests a refresh at the start of each new day, but iOS may delay it based on battery, usage patterns, and system load.

  • Opening the Motra app triggers a data sync to your widgets. If a widget looks stale, open the app, wait a few seconds, and then check the widget again.

  • Newly added widgets are detected when the app comes to the foreground. The app fetches fresh data for any widget it has not updated yet.

  • If a widget still shows old data after opening the app, try removing the widget and re-adding it.

  • This behavior is not a bug -- it is how all iOS widgets work under WidgetKit.

Still Need Help?

If your widgets are not appearing in the widget gallery, make sure you are running the latest version of Motra from the App Store. If you continue to experience issues, reach out to our support team through the app (Profile > Help & Support) and include a screenshot of what you see.
