Managing Notifications

Managing Notifications

Motra lets you control exactly which notifications you receive so you stay informed without the noise. This guide walks you through push notification settings, rest timer alarms, and audio prompts.

Accessing Push Notification Settings

  1. Open Motra and tap the Settings gear icon.

  2. Scroll down to the Data & Privacy section.

  3. Tap Push Notifications.

You will see a screen titled Push Notifications with several sections of toggles you can customize.

Notification Permissions

At the top of the Push Notifications screen you will find the Notification Permissions section.

  • Receive Notifications -- This is the master toggle. Turning it off disables all push notifications from Motra. Turning it on enables the individual notification types listed below.

Note: If you turn on any individual notification type while the master toggle is off, Motra will automatically enable the master toggle for you.

Types of Notifications

Motra organizes notifications into three groups. Each type has its own toggle so you can turn it on or off independently.

Activities

  • Workout Summary -- Sends a summary after you complete a workout.

  • Workout Reminders -- Reminds you when it is time to work out based on your schedule.

  • Streak Reminders -- Alerts you to keep your workout streak alive before the day ends.

  • Challenges -- Notifies you about challenge invitations, updates, and results.

  • Mentions -- Lets you know when someone mentions you in a comment or post.

  • Comments -- Alerts you when someone comments on your workout or post.

  • Likes -- Notifies you when someone likes your workout or post.

  • New Followers -- Lets you know when someone starts following you.

Friends

  • Posts & Streaks -- Notifies you when friends complete a workout or hit a streak milestone.

  • Notify for -- Choose between All Friends or Selected Friends to control whose activity triggers notifications. This picker only appears when Posts & Streaks is turned on.

Marketing and Promotions

  • Updates -- App updates, new features, and product announcements.

  • Marketing & Promotions -- Special offers, discounts, and promotional content.

  • Referrals & Rewards -- Notifications about your referral invitations and earned rewards.

Turning Notifications On or Off

  1. Navigate to Settings > Data & Privacy > Push Notifications.

  2. Find the notification type you want to change.

  3. Tap the toggle next to it to switch it on (green) or off.

  4. Your changes are saved automatically when you leave the screen.

To disable all notifications at once, turn off the Receive Notifications toggle at the top. This switches every individual toggle off in one step.

Rest Timer Alarms and Audio Prompts

Rest timer alerts are separate from push notifications. They are local alerts that fire during your workout to tell you when your rest period is over.

Accessing Rest Timer Settings

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Scroll to the Workout Settings section and tap Workout Settings.

  3. Tap Rest Timer & Alarm.

You will see two options under Rest Alarm Settings:

Rest Alarm

  1. Tap Rest Alarm.

  2. Toggle Enabled on or off.

  3. When enabled, Motra will notify you when your specified rest time between sets is up.

Audio Prompts

  1. Tap Audio Prompt.

  2. Toggle Enabled on or off.

  3. When enabled, you will receive spoken audio cues through your headphones when your rest time is running out.

Important: Audio Prompts require the Rest Alarm to be enabled first. If you try to turn on Audio Prompts without the Rest Alarm active, Motra will display a "Rest Alarm Required" message asking you to enable it.

Tip: Audio prompts work best when the app is running on both your iPhone and Apple Watch. If no earphones are connected, audio prompts will play through your iPhone speaker.

Troubleshooting: Not Receiving Notifications

If you have enabled notifications inside Motra but are not receiving them, the issue is likely with your iOS-level notification permissions.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone (the iOS system Settings, not Motra's settings).

  2. Scroll down and tap Motra.

  3. Tap Notifications.

  4. Make sure Allow Notifications is turned on.

  5. Verify that your preferred alert style (banners, sounds, badges) is enabled.

Inside Motra

If notifications are disabled at the iOS level and you try to enable a toggle inside Motra, the app will show an "Enable In Settings" alert with the message: "Please enable Push Notifications from your iPhone settings." Tap Settings in that alert to jump directly to the Motra notification settings in iOS.

Additional Steps

  • Check Do Not Disturb / Focus Mode -- Make sure Motra is not silenced by a Focus mode on your device.

  • Check your internet connection -- Push notifications require an active internet connection to be delivered.

  • Restart the app -- Close Motra completely and reopen it. Notification settings are refreshed each time you return to the Push Notifications screen.

  • Reinstall if needed -- As a last resort, delete and reinstall Motra. When prompted, allow notifications during setup.
